As you probably know, the Prince George's County, Maryland, Department of Environmental Resources, Programs and Planning Division has been the leader in developing and advocating bioretention and Low Impact Development (LID) site design techniques.

Not enough can be said about their vision and commitment of resources to develop and propagate this amazingly practical stormwater treatment methodology.  Considering the vast array of governmental agencies and organizations throughout the world who say they want to contribute to environmental protection, it is truly incredible that a single county has been the unsurpassed leader in bringing about technological change to one of the most important environmental issues today.

Revised in December, 2002, the Prince George's County Bioretention Manual, sets forth a unique design method that is derived from their LID techniques.
