T.E. Scott & Associates, Inc. offers design workshops on integrating bioretention and stormwater management into site design.

OUR APPROACH

We approach everything from a consultant's viewpoint.  We have no choice, that is what we are.  So we know that a consultant needs to make a profit on the current project, and a similar (or better) profit must be made on the next project, and the next.  If a new or different way is going to be employed, there must be a system or way of doing the work that can be done reliably - and be efficient enough to return a profit in a competitive marketplace.

This has lead to the development of our tools - TSA TOOLS software, and companion design processes.  For us, the two are inter-related.

The Bioretention Module has its obvious advantages.  But coincidental with its development, we organized a way of integrating bioretention into site design.  A system that is really not groundbreaking (at least to us) - but puts a CAD drawing and the Bioretention Module together on a computer screen in a way that makes integrated stormwater management design a very effective and efficient design task.  Not something mysterious nor unprofitable, but a defined way to integrate stormwater management into site design..

So how well does this work?  That depends on who is doing the work - they're understanding of drainage, grading, and site layout issues.  Granted we have quite a bit of diverse experience, but we recently did a preliminary layout of 33 bioretention facilities on a 16 acre high density site in a little over eight rather intense hours.  Plan views basically  finished, comps ready to print and submit.

OUR WORKSHOPS

We have been told that the best way for people to understand and apply this method is to hear it from us directly.  Being a small shop (And liking it!), we have no concerns about giving away our trade secrets to competitors.  So we offer workshops to share our method with others.

Our presentations are not "Why bioretention is the best BMP", "The latest and greatest research on bioretention performance", "Primo landscape designs for bioretention", etc.  If you attend our workshops, you should be a designer or design manager who already knows what bioretention is and are interested in one of the best ways to implement designs using it.  If you wish to discuss the technical merits of selecting bioretention, plant material for your region, or debate pollutant removal rates, this is not your gig.

With a smattering of background, we focus on facility design, plain and simple.  How to develop designs and design documentation in an efficient and routine manner that works.  Every attendee gets a complimentary copy of the Bioretention Module.

We do workshops for organizations or individual consulting firms.  LA's, planners, environmental scientists, or engineers.  After a bit of Powerpoint, we do the real thing with a real project.  It can be ours, or if you supply CAD files in advance, it can be yours.  We can also do working seminars for firms, with your active project on the screen.

We can do workshops anywhere.  Fees vary, depending upon the number of attendees, the location, and organization.
